The Big Jubilee Lunch - 3rd June 2012
Local churches are ideally placed to take a lead and facilitate these 'Big Lunch street parties' and serve their communities together. Also, the Church has a unique contribution to offer to this event - the Bishop of London is working with The Queen's Household to approve a Diamond Jubilee Grace for the occasion. This would make a great opening to the proceedings and help the Church and nation to remember the link between The Queen, her faith and the Church.
The Big Lunch is a very simple idea originated by the Eden Project, the aim of which is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.
In 2011 the Big Lunch was held on Sunday 5th June, when the best part of two million people took part.
In 2012 it falls on the same weekend as The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Sunday 3rd June.
Your church could play a major role in making this year's event the biggest and most special Big Lunch ever!
Also, visit the Church of England website to see how a local parish church west of London first got involved with the Big Lunch event in 2009.
